I don't understand the point of the demonstration -- are there any plans to provide such speed plans to customers in the forseeable future?

That could still be a game changer, but I fear it might be much more than that.

I doubt that regular customers will ever see the benefit of this.

I doubt it...unless you live where spot beams are not fully used....then you might inquire.

I don't doubt that regular customers will receive reduced quality of service when the porkers start hogging the bandwidth.

I think this "show/tell" is for the next generation bird....and I would not be surprised if this demo is being done via Dish's bird...it won't be operational until middle of this year for WB consumers.

To do 18 Mbps...means about 50% of a 36 Mhz transponder capacity is being consumed, when using a traditional transponder/equipment....you can get higher bitrates with newer equipment....but....I assume the bird has to be designed around higher bitrate usage.

Good question. Is 3GB/mo too much for a family of 4 with 2 computers?

I wonder if all the customers of WB will see their service suddenly stop working during this amazing showing?

Could just be a demo (and like Via-Sat's video) designed to support a "broadband to the masses" proposal to snag some of the millions that BO/Congress are throwing in that direction.

I guess the questio will be how feasible is this "order of magnitude increase" satellite, how much will it cost, and how long will it take to deploy?
